An evening with MJ

Hah... if you think it's Micheal Jackson, then eggs on yer face..... it's Mek Jah laa..

Anyway, we had the honour of entertaining MJ last Saturday evening in Kelana Jaya. Maji who was supposed to be the host couldn't make it last minute. Sohok and Begok's brother (Rahman) were the early ones (but they had to leave early as well as). Then slowly the others trickled in - MJ, Pok Eid, Sdi Kun (who also happened to be in KL), Mondok and Yuzly. Initially we thought of doing 'boyz night out at the k-ok joint', but since it's the middle of the month, well we decided to pekena teh instead.

The family day next year was decided to be done in Cherating after all. Tokcha is finalising the details with the resorts. For those who wish to join and would like to do partial payment can do so to the officials in KB. Details of course will be announced in the mailing list. One of the activities would be the karaoke competition - wonder if they have 'Aduh Saleha' song - nak jugak try lagu Mawi...

Anyway, Cherating is a good choice - not that far from most of us (except those residing in the northen part of Malaya). The mention of Cherating reminds me of Kuala Kemaman - the 'sata' there is simply out of this world! Fanta-licious I tell you... Then there's keropok lekor a.k.a 'khepok gete' - fresh from the boiling pot, into the hot oil - then serve with nyicoh lada - fuyoo, pekena pulok dengan air nyor. Imagine this: nice and bright day, roughly about 5 pm, sitting nicely in a sea front stall, having hot sata, khepok gete + nyicoh and a big glass of air nyo.... simply put: heaven.

Couldn't wait for the monsoon season to end, for I hear the beach is calling...

Of mistaken identity?

The infamous ketuk ketampi incident has proven that some of us Malaysian really love to talk first, think later. The Police was barraged with criticism and the sympathy to the victim led our PM to order one of the Ministers to go to China to explain matters and woo back the Chinese tourist ( and their dollars) back to Malaysia.

Today, The Star revealed that the victim was NOT a Chinese from China, but a pregnant Malay lady - imagine the effort that went through all the way to China and to find out that it was after all, not a Chinese citizen.

Terlajak perahu boleh di tarik. The opposition had their field day while the government deserve an egg on their face. Our own Police was subject to all the criticism and now some people in the government also join the band wagon in saying their piece. It is time that we stop all these thoughtless ranting and let them do their job with pride and dignity. It doesn't make any better by just talking about it.

Come to think of it, what will happen if this news got out before the Pengkalan Pasir election? Maybe, just maybe, there's a "prawn behind the rock"...?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SEMESTA86!!

Today, our beloved mailing list turns 7. in conjunction with this occasion, we now present you with our very own blog - Sains Kelate '86, dedicated to the alumnis of SMS Kelantan '82 - '86 (SMSKn; now known as SMSTMFP - Sek. Men. Sains Tg. Mohd. Faris Petra. But we like SMSKn better!).

Many have raised comments that we need to 'refresh' the mailing list name to better reflect the camaraderie among us. True, maybe we need to do just that.

This mailing list was created back then, out of the need to bring the members closer to each other. At the time when most of us were busy starting out with their career, we tend to take for granted the close friends that we have. The friends whom we share our joys and our pains, the experience and the growing ups, and the true meaning of a friendship. Back then, it was not just the career that was starting to take off, some of us were busy with our own little family. We were juggling our life between career, family and our new lifestyles, that sometimes we do not have time to say hello to our dear old friends.

It was the time when e-mails were not that popular. Not many people had the access of e-mail back then. So, kira canggih jugak la puok2 kita ni. But the numbers slowly grew and after 7 years in existence, we have more than 30 members in the list. The mailing list becomes the preferred choice in broadcasting information to the member. Many important events were announced through this channel and many lively e-mails were posted.

Why create a blog when we already have a mailing list? Somebody asked.

Not that many of us has a clear picture of what blog is. They added.

We started the mailing list when only a handful of us had an e-mail account. We have no clear idea what this blog can do to our group, but if this can inspire us to share, to let everyone into their lives with their stories, then why not. Who we are today reflect what we have gone through over the years. The knowledge and the wisdom that we have gathered, the characters that were moulded through the experiences that we braved through, this new environment that we are now in. Who we are today are different from we were then. Sadly, many of us do not know each other that much anymore. To me, the joy that this SEMESTA86 has brought us are the moments where everybody joins in and tells their stories and share their thoughts.

Happy 7th birthday.
